Surakarta – Air pollution has become an increasingly pressing urban challenge, affecting public health, environmental quality, and the overall livability of cities. Recognizing the need for broader public awareness and collaborative action, Planologic participated in the 10th Urban Social Forum through a discussion session titled “Stand Up for Clean Air: Fighting for Clean Air for All.”
Organized by Bicara Udara as part of the Urban Social Forum, the discussion brought together representatives from civil society, academia, environmental organizations, and local communities to examine the growing impacts of air pollution and explore collective solutions toward cleaner and healthier cities.
A distinguished panel
Representing Planologic, Yanwa Evia J. M., a member of the Research and Studies Team, served as the moderator, facilitating discussions among a distinguished panel of speakers, including Primadita Rahma (Bicara Udara), Bayu Imamtoko (Resikplus), Dimanuga (Sanggar Anak Jati), and M. Mufti Azis, Ph.D. from Universitas Gadjah Mada.
The forum explored the multiple dimensions of urban air pollution—from emissions generated by transportation and industrial activities to the broader implications for environmental justice and public health. Rather than viewing clean air solely as an environmental concern, participants emphasized that it should be recognized as a fundamental right shared by all urban residents.
“Clean air should be recognized not merely as an aspiration, but as a basic condition for improving urban quality of life.”
The case for cross-sector collaboration
Discussions also highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in improving air quality. Governments, researchers, community organizations, and citizens all play essential roles in promoting sustainable transportation, strengthening environmental governance, encouraging cleaner technologies, and fostering greater public participation in environmental policymaking.
Through its participation in the Urban Social Forum, Planologic reaffirmed its commitment to supporting evidence-based dialogue on critical urban issues. By engaging with diverse stakeholders, the organization continues to advocate for more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities where clean air is recognized not merely as an aspiration, but as a basic condition for improving urban quality of life.
